So its the big day where all across the world writers and frantically typing away at the beginnings of their novel. 50K in 30 days, easy peasy. Ok I jest, so not easy let alone peasy.
I set up Scriv with the titles of my 5 stories, in advance, so know where I’m at. I’ve setup a daily word count, slightly above the normal at 1800 words per day, aiming to have it all written the 29th Nov. This gives me wiggle room. Based on previous years I can expect to write well the first week, hopefully hitting the weekly target if not the daily target but I do have a ton of stuff on the first weekend which is problematic.
The first story I’m going with is Black Gold – this is the one about the not so cute fairies. All I know at the moment is that there is standing stones, oil (hence the title), greed and some headless corpses. Main character is a bit of a dick but I’m hoping he has some redeeming features, not that it matters, I never have a problem bumping characters off.
I do have a grumpy old man who knows whats going on and is drunk and smug with a lot of ‘I told you so’s’. Throwing in a love interest so I can have some interaction with the MC and possibly a ‘what have I done’ moment.
I know where it’s starting, I know where it’s ending but at the moment the middle is a mystery. I’m feeling good about it, the story sounds good in my head, but then they always do. Onwards and upwards as they say.
